Healthcare, AI & Human Judgement with Jeff Spight
Healthcare, AI & Human Judgement with Jeff Spight
What will make a great leader stand out when AI can analyze data, build strategies, and recommend decisions in seconds?
Tim Fergestad sits down with healthcare entrepreneur and Stanford MBA Jeff Spight to explore that question and much more.
Jeff has spent more than 20 years building and leading healthcare organizations across behavioral health, value-based care, Medicare Advantage, and specialty healthcare. His work has given him a close look at some of the biggest challenges in healthcare—and why solving the right problem matters more than building a complicated solution.
Jeff shares the story behind MIND 24-7, an Arizona behavioral health organization designed around a simple idea: when someone is in a mental health crisis, get them in front of the right professional quickly. He explains how rethinking the traditional process helped create a different approach to behavioral healthcare for both adults and children.
Tim and Jeff also discuss Jeff's work with Covenant Specialty Health and his vision for more patient-centered cancer care. Jeff explains how changing incentives, bringing specialists into treatment decisions, and using AI to identify potential clinical trials could help patients get better access to the right care.
Then the conversation turns to AI and leadership.
As AI becomes better at analysis, Jeff believes one human capability will become increasingly valuable: judgment.
AI can help leaders evaluate choices quickly, but leaders still need to know which questions to ask, which problems actually matter, and when the best answer may be something outside the obvious choices.
Jeff also introduces his idea of a “Judgment Gym”—a way to deliberately practice making better decisions in a world where technology can do more of the analytical work for us.
It’s a thoughtful conversation about healthcare, mental health, leadership, AI, and why keeping people at the center of the problem still matters.
